I have friends who are single, childless and middle-aged. They do whatever they want and spend whatever they want. They do not save for retirement or anything else; they live for the moment and don’t worry about retirement – they are hedonists. If they had a partner, their partner might prod them to plan for the future, but they don’t have to listen to anyone. One man I know saves nothing. He plans to die young and does not take care of his health. But what if he lives longer than he expects and what if his medical expenses are high? Life has ways of surprising you. Do you know what your life will be like in ten or twenty years? Better plan ahead. There are no do-overs.
